When prioritizing research during pandemics, it must be ensured that research participants in other ongoing studies are not left worse off than before they entered their study.

During pandemics, when confronted with limited resources and increasing workloads, research ethics committees may need to adjust the order in which they perform ethical reviews of research protocols. It is important to ensure that prioritization efforts do not harm research participants in ongoing studies.
