Research coordination and cooperation is essential to avoid unnecessary duplication of studies, which can place unfair burdens on participants and waste time and resources.

Conducting studies which could have been predicted to fail, for instance, because they are not large enough to provide a definitive result, is not only a waste of resources but also a breach of research participants’ trust and a violation of research ethics. That is why coordination and cooperation are essential.
